HU Hands from PCA Double Shootout ($175) Win
Here are some hands that I played heads up at both the first and second tables of a PCA Double Shootout. Unlike the first double shootout I played in which there were two hands that I had no idea what to do, this one seemed to run pretty smoothly. Many of these plays could be completely standard, but I want to prepare myself as best possible by discussing as many hands as possible.
---First Table--- callmewonder was playing extremely conservatively 3-handed and had his 88 beat 78 after a 7-low-low flop to get it to heads up. I had about 2500 starting heads up and have been raising his blind from the button almost every hand. He has shown a little resistance up to this point but not a lot. Heads up he seemed to be a tight player but also not afraid of playing back. I can try to answer any other questions about his play if necessary. *********** # 114 ************** Table '15242040 3' Seat #6 is the button Seat 3: HoyaSaxa3 (3720 in chips) Seat 6: callmewonder (8280 in chips) callmewonder: posts small blind 75 HoyaSaxa3: posts big blind 150 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to HoyaSaxa3 [Jd Kc] callmewonder: raises 150 to 300 HoyaSaxa3: raises 900 to 1200 callmewonder: raises 6300 to 7500 HoyaSaxa3: ??? *********** # 122 ************** Table '15242040 3' Seat #6 is the button Seat 3: HoyaSaxa3 (7115 in chips) Seat 6: callmewonder (4885 in chips) callmewonder: posts small blind 75 HoyaSaxa3: posts big blind 150 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to HoyaSaxa3 [Kh 9s] callmewonder: calls 75 HoyaSaxa3: checks *** FLOP *** [3d 3s 4h] HoyaSaxa3: checks callmewonder: checks *** TURN *** [3d 3s 4h] [Kc] HoyaSaxa3: checks callmewonder: bets 300 HoyaSaxa3: ??? *********** # 125 ************** Table '15242040 3' Seat #3 is the button Seat 3: HoyaSaxa3 (7865 in chips) Seat 6: callmewonder (4135 in chips) HoyaSaxa3: posts small blind 100 callmewonder: posts big blind 200 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to HoyaSaxa3 [Kc Js] HoyaSaxa3: raises 300 to 500 callmewonder: raises 2500 to 3000 HoyaSaxa3: ??? ---Second Table--- arbianight seemed to be a really solid player. Re: HU Hands from PCA Double Shootout ($175) Win
1a) I really don't like the preflop reraise for a 1/3 of your stack. Why not call and see a flop? But the way it played out, I think you can still get away from the hand after his push.. you're in pretty bad shape against likely holdings (AT+, KQ+, 99+).
1b) Easy value call. Since your read indicates he's somewhat passive/not tricky, lead out the river with a blocking bet. He'll call with worse hands and raise with hands that have you beat (then you fold). 1c) Easy fold. --------- 2a) Depends on what he defends his blinds with. 2b) Throw out a bet of 800 for value. |

Re: HU Hands from PCA Double Shootout ($175) Win
Congrats on your win, a lot of good players have been trying to win these for a long time
1a) Must be an easy fold here, dunno about the reraise. 1b) Call. Raising is OK i guess, but call seems good. 1c) Fold. Seriously, what is KJo beating? 2: FWIW, arbianight plays super good. 2a) Uhhh, i'd probably fire again. Check behind the river. 2b) Throw out a bet. |

Re: HU Hands from PCA Double Shootout ($175) Win
1a) I got the sense that callmewonder was getting tired of my constant raising on the button and decided that he was going to try it too. He had raised min on the button probably two of the previous three times so I decided a reraise was in order. After I reraise, I think I need to call the all-in with a 1/3rd of my chips already in the pot. I called, he had A7, and I hit a K on the flop.
1b) I called. The river was a blank and it went check/check and I took down the pot (he had 0). I was just wondering how to maximize my gain on that hand without risking too many chips in a small pot with a marginal hand. 1c) I'm pretty sure I made an awful play here but I got good advice from a well respected player that I should not put VP$IP then fold in shootouts. I know it doesn't apply HU but I was looking for an excuse to play. The huge reraise was really strange and I immediately thought Ax or low pair. I was raising almost every hand on the button and there's no way he's coming back over the top that big with a hand that has me crushed (except KQ and maybe AJ). Low pair made the most sense to me because I think he's more likely to reraise with a low pair than Ax. I thought for a long time then reraised all-in. He (obviously) called with 33 and I won the race. It's great to know that arbianight plays super good. We got to heads up with nearly identical stacks (6790 him 6710 me) and I never dipped below 6000. I just grinded him down then got lucky when blinds moved to 200/400 and he pushed his remaining 2200 in with A7 and I woke up with 1010. 2a) I decided to keep the pot small and checked. I was obviously worried of giving a free card to diamonds but decided to do it anyways. The river was the perfect card A. He bet out 1000 and I minraised to 2000. He folded immediately. 2b) I bet 400 on the turn which was called and 900 on the river which was once again called. arbianight had A6. I probably could've got a bit more out of him on the river and was just wondering what type of bet sizes are good in these situations. We both played the hand well overall I think. |
