NL400 blocking bet/ controlling pot size
i am new to 400NL. (55's 8 table player).
1. i want to know how i could have controlled the size of the pot here. 2 i bet on the turn because of the flush draw but what if there was no flush draw? what would your play be? check/calling turn? 3. how are my bets? 4.reraise preflop? 5. how is my blocking bet on river? what would you suggest on river? check/calling a small bet? or is my blocking bet fine. i was ready to let it go to a raise. feel free to rip this hand apart. ps: its GREAT TO BE BACK TO NL cash games!! Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 4 handed) converter Button ($1268.05) Hero ($729.30) BB ($400) UTG ($564.13) Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. looks good to me. i usually reraise in this spot but calling is fine if you dont have any reads on villain.

Re: NL400 blocking bet/ controlling pot size
I'd reraise preflop, that's a must, especially 4 handed.
Flop and turn are great. River I'd check-call on this board, because there's a wide range of hands that will raise this river, some you beat, some you don't. A missed draw might likely raise big on the river, an 8 might do the same. As it played out, I might call a decent sized raise on the river anyway because of the distinct possibility of a missed draw. |

Your river bet far exceeds what is known as a blocking bet.

Re: NL400 blocking bet/ controlling pot size
I like the check/call.
The only hand he will call you with that you beat is TT, or maybe A9 (maybe something worse if he's a donk, or has seen you play a draw like you played this hand). If he could have an overpair, and 8, made draw, or missed draw, you'd rather check and then call his bluff/value bet. Then again, I don't really subscribe to the blocking bet. If you check (showing weakness) and he bets as a bluff, it's pretty unlikely the bet will be too big to call. Past $25nl and $50nl, few players seem to bluff for much more than the size of the pot. |
