WLLH - Question on text/Summary differences?
I understand that Lee posts here from time to time - so if there is a better way to direct this question to him... please let me know.
I've finished reading WLLH and am starting to go through the Strategy section again. I've come across some things that seem to contradict each other. For example (3rd edition, BYW): In the Early Position/Pre-Flop, his summary states that AJs should be raised. However, when you read the chapter, it states that AJs can be called. As a complete newbie, I realize that I should start tight and loosen as I get better and understand the game more. However, I just would like to know which is better to follow; the text within the chapter or the summary chart at the end? Thanks, Jeff |

Raise.

Re: WLLH - Question on text/Summary differences?
Call. You are out of position and a raise is not going to make hands better than yours fold. AJs plays extremely well in multi-way pots. In early position it is likely you aren't going to thin the field that much with a raise. Better to play for a multi-way pot and lure other players in.

So what's wrong with failing to thin the field when you get cold-called by A8o?

First, while the 3rd edition is a vast improvement, there are still problems, I think.
Second, if you're looking for the standard line: raise. Barron Vangor Toth BarronVangorToth.com |

Re: WLLH - Question on text/Summary differences?
Hi Cheerdude:
I haven't read the new edition of WLLH yet so I won't comment directly on what it says. However, in small stakes games which feature many players who automatically play hands that they shouldn't, ace-jack suited should almost always be a raise. See Small Stakes Hold 'em for more discussion. Best wishes, Mason |

Hi Aces:
In small stakes games that feature many bad players, you should get these multiway pots whether you raise or just call. Best wishes, mason |

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ] I would lay money that Lee forgot to change the earlier reference. To me, the summary (and its 3rd edition footnote) could not make it clearer that the correct play is to raise. And having also read SSH, I know that to be true. |
