AJo in SB of 3 Table Tourney
Poker Stars $5+.5 3 table NL tournament. Down to 10 players on 2 tables
Blinds are 100-200 I have around T4,000 and the villian has around T7,000. I am in the SB, villian is on the button. Our table is 5 handed. Dealt to me in SB: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Folded around to villian on the button. He limps for 200. I raise to 900 in SB. BB folds and villian calls my raise. Pot is now 2000 and I have 3100 left. Flop comes down K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I caught part of the flop, but natually, I do not like that K overcard. I make a continuation bet of 1,000. Villian immediately raises to 2,000. Villian recently called an all-in bet of mine with bottom pair, so I know he is loose. If I fold here, I still have T2100 left and an M of 7, but on a shorthanded table. (We will merge to one table when nine players are left). Do I push my remaining chips with my 2nd pair, and backdoor straight and flush draws, or wait for a better opportunity to get all my chips in the pot? |

Re: AJo in SB of 3 Table Tourney
Push.
with 2 hearts on the board and without the ace, its unlikely for villain to miniraise with the K (maybe only Kx [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) You're either way ahead or way behind. The pots too big for you to give up on it. |

Re: AJo in SB of 3 Table Tourney
I hate this spot.. Up against a big stack out of position.
Very very difficult situation you're in. I try to avoid spots like this. I probably limp preflop. The call from the big stack'd button is very ominious. That is usually a standard raise and play on the blinds if he's holding a playable hand. We don't have a read on him, but the call signals to me that he might be holding a premium hand (AA,AK,KK,QQ). I limp in and keep the pot small and look to hit strong TPTK. If I hit anything less than TPTK (as you did), I probably bet and fold to a raise. With his action.. I think he has a big hand, maybe A-A. |

Re: AJo in SB of 3 Table Tourney
i agree here. I put him on a really big hand w/ the limpcall preflop and the minraise on the flop.
tough spot, but i probably let it go, too. |

Re: AJo in SB of 3 Table Tourney
Results as follows:
I push the remainder of my chips. Villian calls and turns over KTo. Another King hits on the turn and I'm deader than William Westmoreland. I finish in 10th place, out of the money. Thanks for your responses. |
