Default Continuation bet

Can someone explain to me what a continuation bet is. I wasn't really sure where to post this either so sorry if it would be in the wrong place.

Default Re: Continuation bet

A continuation bet is a bet made after you have raised preflop, and one that you will make almost no matter what comes on the flop.

To give you an example, I have AQs in MP, I raise preflop. The button calls. When the flop comes 8,7,2 I bet out. This bet is useful to put continued pressure on your opponent when it is likely that no one hit the flop. It is simply a continuation of your earlier pre-flop raise asserting that you believe you have the best hand.

many people think a continuation bet is a string bet, which is not the case, a string bet is when you bet a certian amount, and then reach back for more chips and bet more. Unless you verbally say what your raise is, then you can't go back and grab more chips when you bet, this is knows as a strig bet and gets confused with continuation bet.
