internet poker origins
sorry if this was already answered, did a search, couldn't find anything. When did Internet Poker start? How was it compared to today?

Re: internet poker origins
The first "major" sites were Planet Poker and Paradise Poker. The games were a lot tougher than today. I can't remember much else except paradise used to pass the transaction fee onto the player which could then be worked back off by acquiring points for raked hands.
There were just as many "rigged" posts back then as there are today. The Archives are good reading when you have some spare time. |

Re: internet poker origins
It started with planet poker, and it was ran much like a traditional brick and mortar room. They didn't absorb transaction fees and you could only play at one (maybe two tables.
Then paradise came along and blew them out of the water, with better software, play money tables, and gave you the opportunity to earn your transaction fees back. I'm don't really remember what kind of deposit bonuses were like back then, if any. |

The games were VERY soft but if anyone from here or RGP admitted to playing they were flamed as an idiot. Of course poker junkies being poker junkies, within a year or so the regulars on the boards changed their minds and decided it was OK to play online after all. That's when the games toughened up. Considerably. |
