The problem is that the sixth day, at a quarter billion years ago, is much farther back than the appearance of the first humans, which is less than 100,000 years ago.
I've always subscribed to the interpretation that the six days were non-consecutive.
The fact that sumerian legends are mimiced in the Bible is only to be expected, since there usually isn't any dispute about the facts of the events that took place, only what caused them and what they mean.
