Your post is not clear enough to give a valid opinion. Many clubs (especially small ones) allow a player to "play over" someone's stack - which means they play their own money, but have to give the seat back when the first player wants it.

It also used to be fairly common for the first player to allow another player to "play their stack" - while they went to lunch or on some similar break. If in your situation player "A" left the table before the hand in question, and did not look at the hand when he came back, then I think the floor's decision was a poor one, unless the club has a specific rule that states that allowing another player to play your chips is against the rules.
