Is this in order to take control of the hand, or to mitigate the effect of the potential of being behind on later streets and making "pot-odds" calls against potential raise bluffs? The reason I ask is because it seems like very often people will ignore the early action and take a shot on the turn with not much. It is often enough that they may or may not have the goods and it causes a definite headache.

on average, caps alter the play of the hand postflop by enough that its clear its what you should do if you're uncomfortable playing OOP. easily worth the sb.

plus you cap to get equity out of callers and hopefully maybe get dead money with folders.

all of these reasons make it good for YOU to cap given your comfort level postflop...people who raise cappers to take shots are definately overly agro and you would have notes/stats on them
