I would just stick it in preflop. I doubt he can fold QQ-JJ and AK after committing 1/4 of his stack.

Results: hero calls waits for like 30sec-2min... not sure how long, and eventually crosses fingers (literally) and friggin calls, immediately turns over kings. Villain doesn't show, hero wins. Hero doesn't ask.
