I sucked out!
I looked at the Dell website and their return policy to see if there was anything like a general 30-day money back guarantee as jman220 had mentioned, but did't find anything. Perhaps that used to be their policy but they changed it to reduce the rate of frivolous returns. Their return policy now states they may apply a 15% restocking fee if they do not believe they were at fault.
I tried calling them again anyway. I finally was able to get on the phone with a guy who had the authority to waive the restocking fee. He offered me a $175 rebate if I would agree to simply keep the laptop. I told him I couldn't, that I really needed the 1920x1200 and that was what I thought I was ordering at the time. He agreed to waive the fee!
