Not at all. It's a total of 9" wide; just under 3" is covered by the rail leaving just over 6" for the chips and drink holders. The total width covered by the leather is 24" wide. I believe it works out just right, but as with anything, each person has their own ideas.

Our racetrack was 9 1/4" and is puuuuurrrrrfect. I thought it might be too wide at first, but once the padding is covering it, it works out well.
