You got a lot of your chips in at level 1 against a weak lineup ($11) with Ace high and still managed to give a free card in the process.
That's a bit harsh of me, but it might get you planning ahead a little more.
You took a route that gave yourself a chance at losing a chunk of chips without even seeing the river.
In a cash game, I suspect this play wouldn't be bad, in a tournament, you are risking your livlihood against mediocre players with a mediocre hand whilst out of position.
If you have position on the guy and make the identical play, then on the turn you get a choice whether to bet again or to take a freebie.
I think your logic is fine, but I think it involved getting too many chips into the pot on this occasion, especially as your stack is a little short.
