Default Re: ATTN MicroBob and Chipr777: Tunica info needed

I just did a 4 night's stay at Sam's Town, got back into town last night, so I can give you a little info about the poker room.

The poker room itself is ok, it's pretty decently sized but open to the casino floor (upstairs) so the outer tables can be a little noisy if people are playing those slots (nickel slots so nobody normally is).

Most of the time they have only 3/6 limit and 1/2 NL games going, sometimes 2 tables of each, but always at least 1.

They serve free hot dogs that are pretty good and they bring up Krispy Kreme doughnuts pretty often as well, since they have one downstairs.

The comp rate is terrible though, you get $1.40 an hour comp so it takes forever to earn a dinner buffet.

My previous trip to Tunica I played only at the Goldstrike (once again 4 days) and found them much better with giving food comps. If you played 3 hours or so they'd comp you a buffet no problem. I had more buffet comps than I could use up for the trip.

The Goldstrike's room was more quiet and had more activity/game selection, alot of young players and women. The dealer's seemed pretty miserable though.

Anyway back to Sam's Town, they didn't keep track of my time played very well. It's not a sophisticated system they have, when you start playing they just punch a clock on a sheet of paper and you turn that in when you are done. There also was alot of confusion with the poker room rate (it was my first time using it so alot of it was just my inexperience). Some people said 5 hours of play a day, some said 6, etc. The rate is $25 weekday / $35 weekend at Sam's, like everywhere else.

They run tournaments on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Each starts at either 11 am or 6 pm, I forget which time is which day though.

The positives are that the dealers there are all friendly and pretty easy going. Even when people were doing royally stupid crap they would politely try to correct them.

There are alot of old fossils that play at Sam's it seems, alot of old guys over 60, much less women/young players than at Goldstrike.

I also had a chance to check out the new Horseshoe room. I didn't play just walked through it. It's definiately alot better now that it was before and looked to be full of "serious" players (NO women, alot of sunglasses, high stakes games, etc). Some of this may of had to do with the fact the WSOP circuit even is going on.

The Grand also has a nice poker room (which was packed due to the WSOP event). The only other room is at Hollywood and it's pretty miserable. A few tables in a dimly lit back corner. The people playing there look pretty incompitent though, even more so than the other places.

FYI: I'm born/breed in the South so I could take it but you should know TUNICA IS HOT HOT HOT HOT, it was freaking 103 - 107 over the pavement the weekend I was there. The casinos are pretty cold though, so you gotta be pretty versitile in your dress so you can take both.
