I think you absolutely must reraise him on the flop. You say he was new to the table so he couldn't have you read that well. If he's aggressive, he might be reraising you with hands as weak as KJ suited. Aggressive players virtually always raise the flop when they hit top pair, so you need to try to convey that that K doesn't worry you.

If he caps the flop, I think two pair (KQ) becomes likely in which case you still have odds to check call the hand down.

I think folding the turn here is a big mistake, you just can't assume someone must have hit a set on this board.

Again, there's just too many hands an aggressive player can raise with in this case for you to let the hand go.
