After that, however, South Florida parimutuels began offering poker tournaments with no limits on wagering, in violation of state law, Roberts said.

In response, the parimutuel division repealed all its rules on tournament poker and suspended tournament play, citing "an immediate danger to the public health, safety and welfare."

It's not explained very well, but I'm interpreting it as this:

A room is offering a tournament with a buy-in of, say, $100. For this $100, you get T1000 in chips. Say the tourney gets 100 entrants. After a while, it's heads up, and each player has T50k in chips. So if there's an all-in, that means each player is betting T50k. Do these morons really equate this to betting $50,000??? That's what it seems like. If so, they might be the stupidest people ever.

They just have stupid laws down there. You can't bet more than $2 in limit game, but you can enter a $2000 Sit N' Go.

High limit home games and tournaments are thriving in Florida.
