Kind of off topic but this reminds me of a special on cancer treatments I watched on TV.

A publicly traded pharmaceutical company discovered/invented
a cancer treatment that would cure a certain type of childrens cancer. This treatment could cure a deadly cancer!! It actually worked.

Wasn't lucrative enough for them to make a profit so they quit making it, now all the children that get this cancer will most likely die.

Thats big business for you.

Which company? What program was it, and what did they want you to think of it? What kind of cancer? Is it common?

Dunno about the cancer but can give two examples just form one huge american software company Oracle. They desupported the financials package which caused a huge fuss as there were a lot of clients still planning on using it big huge corporations. The compromise was they would support existing bugs so it was out get out clause sorry development wont do anything new on this now.

Also their recent takeover of peoplesoft was not appreciated by many of poeplesofts client base some of whome will move to sap etc but most will stay with Oracle and at some point in the future will have to move over to the new merged peoplesoft/oracle combined software.

What party has done isnt even that big or radical, if a company is big enough has a strong customer base and market share they will push on regardless of knocking a few applecarts over, yes they may make measures to smooth things over but they will make plans and push on if it matches their strategy.
