Default General Question about value betting the river

It seems a lot of times I will be in position or be the aggressor in a pot and have 1-3 callers all the way through (no raises). So basically everyone is check-calling me. I'll have a solid hand, overpair, TPTK or maybe two pair with a potential scare card on the end (completion of flush draw of straight draw, board pair, etc). Yet, it will be checked to me. Most of the time I check the river as well and end up taking the pot. Is it wrong to value bet my hand assuming anyone having hit their draw or holding a better hand will lead out on the river?

My thinking being that in the long run, the bet on the river will be profitable and good for me because I will most of the time win the pot with at least one more big bet in there, will sometimes win it without a showdown, and sometimes will lose it.

Overall, a profitable play??

Just any thoughts.

Sorry about the vagueness of this question.

A thought that just occured to me. Mix it up? Players might realize I bet through my solid hands and start check raising me on the river when they hit their draw?

Any thoughts much appreciated.
