Hand 1. This river isn't particuarly scary, if you thought you had the best and on the turn then bet it.
Hand 2, I hate the plan of waiting for the river to raise your set, since there are so many cards that can scare you into just flat calling, which is what happened. Get the bets in on the turn, even if he's got a straight or flush you have outs.
