I would fold the flop. No reason to dump any chips with low pair when you don't know where you are at any point in this hand. If you check raise he could call with some type of donk draw and then you have to bet something on the river assuming he misses or worry about having to call a bet. I just fold and not get involved in level 2 with low pair against an unknown opponent.
