Actually, MLB is one of the few businesses (If not the ONLY business) to have an official anti-trust exemption so it is the Federal Govt's business what goes on in baseball. Not saying I agree with it, just explaining the Senators rationale.

That doesn't really explain why they're wasting on something that is already illegal rather than letting law enforcement worry about it.
