The concept: Assuming both men are in their absolute primes, and are fighting to the death using conventional gladiator weapons...who wins?

I am thinking matchups like John Wayne vs. Charlton Heston, and Sean Connery vs. Russell Crowe.

edit: To clarify, please post ideas for names, not actual matchups (the tournament would be a round-robin, last man standing type of deal, with random brackets TBA.)
