I prefer the opposite, since position gives you information, and small pots are all about information.

When the pot is small with few opponents being out of position can be the best position of all. Lets say one person limps in and your in the SB with XX and you call and the BB checks. If the flop comes out K72ish or 992, you will have the first chance to bluff at it. There are many flops where the winner will usually be the first person who puts money in the pot. So by being first to act you have the best chance to take down the pot on many flops, this can be a great advantage against the right opponents. Since bluffs usually work the best in small pots with few opponents, being out of position can be a great advantage. This is one reason that a player might prefer to be oop in small pots.
