This hand was played pretty good by both apart from Paul probably shouldn't play it preflop. Although sounds like the other guy has a reputation of playing any 2 so not bad.
Paul's thinking on the river if i had to venture a guess is he put the other guy on a big A. Like Ak, Aq, Aj. So he waited to see if he got counterfitted before he got to involved on the turn(although he felt he was good). When he didnt get his 2 pair counterfitted he decided to value bet thinking the spade might scare the other guy from betting. When he got raised he didnt like it but there was too much in the pot to muck 2 pair for one bet. And there was still a chance the guy just might have Ak or something.
