I too found myself in that same situation as yourself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd guess that you are not eligible for DSL either. What I would recommend as an alternative to cable internet, is a wireless internet connection. There is some great technology out there right now, and you're in a perfect situation to give it a shot.
dslreports is a great search engine for broadband carriers around your area. You can read other users reviews of any of the ISP's in your area.
