I'd say just wait a few months. There will be better iRivers, Cowons, and other products with the same capacity and similar size. Apple's goal was to be first to the market with a full featured TINY flash player with decent capacity. They did that, and [censored] is breaking like crazy.
They already have a lawsuit against them (for scratches or some stupid [censored]). But they've been taking back a lot of replacements for broken screens and such.
