I'm guessing that it goes up saying "Unconfirmed by x. So and so hooked up in 2005 and it was fantastic." and then if they deny it then it gets taken down.

ETA: And all of facebook is pointless. Although this feature seems even more pointless as it's not something that shows up on your profile -- you have to look at someone's friends list to see their connections.
