No, it means if you have access to an HD signal(i.e. digital cable or satalite when you subcribe to the actual HD channels) it will be able to display it. It will display at whatever aspect ratio the channel broadcasts by default normally. All HD TV's are HD compatible meaning they will display a HD signal that you provide. Unless it is specified as an ED TV which will display HD signals down converted to 480p as opposed to the better looking 720p or 1080i signals.
