Bill Robertie made a good post about this a while back. I can't find the post, but his username is "Robertie" so you might be able to find it. He said that you can use the program snowy to see if someone is playing perfect backgammon. Also, they will take quite some time to make every move. In his experience he has only come across a couple of cheats and the sites took it seriously, I think.
