Table vp$ip is pretty silly IMO, especially if you're playing 5/10 or higher where a lot of players are tight. Not all tight players are alike, or even play well, and discovering weaknesses in otherwise 'tight' players is pretty key. The other point is that, with just one or two very loose players and/or favorable position, you'll be in pots much more often with the loose players, and often heads-up.

It's also valuable to find a seat to the right of 2-3 players who play poorly and/or predictably from the blinds. The opportunity to outplay these opponents maybe once an orbit is more lucrative than most people realize.
