1. Stick to maximums of 800 mg per dose and 3200 mg per day unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
2. If you've had any trouble with your liver, kidneys, congestive heart failure, or stomach ulcers, do not self-medicate with high-dosage ibuprofen. Call your doctor, and follow their advice between the phone call and your doctor's visit.
3. My advice was geared toward getting through severe pain while waiting for your doctor's visit. It's not an alternative to a doctor's visit. If your pain is severe and over-the-counter medications can't help in safe doses, and you can't get to a doctor, go to the hospital.
