Default Dual Monitor - Dell Inspiron 1100

Sorry, I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I can't make the search function work today.

I'm getting by with a one-and-a-half year old Dell Inspiron 1100, and I'm trying to connect an extra monitor so that I can two-table (or read two-plus-two while playing).

It's no problem getting a picture on the extra monitor, but of course it's identical to the picture on the laptop monitor. There's no "Extend the desktop to this monitor" button in the display setup - making me assume the onboard graphic and driver does not have this feature.

Am I right there's no way to deal with this without adding an extra (PC-card) graphics card?

Best,
