The more multiway the pot is, the better your set value is. Also it will still win a significant amount of the time when no overcards come. And if you get a bad flop multiway (AK on board) you can fold for no more bets.

I think the best argument for not raising those hands out of the blinds is in tighter games with tight passive players when there are only about 4 to the flop. If you assume these rocks probably all have big cards then it might be better to just complete (I think I heard this is the advice from Middle Limit Holdem maybe, but I've never read that book). Anyways, the better solution in this case is to request a table change.
