I have the same issue as OP (previous existing account w/no bonus code from my play money days). Unfortunately it's not as simple as creating a new account using a different email address. They are also checking either your real name or home address. You can try to cancel the original account and see if that works. I gave up after several emails to support and decided it wasn't worth my time.
