i also think it's dumb.

is it possibly some kind of an angle-shoot? i've seen players announce 2-pair when the board is already paired. so maybe it's AT884 and they have a pair of 2's and announce '2-pair' and hope the other guy is an idiot and folds a better hand without even seeing it.

It sometimes seems like some sort of game of "i can read the board really quickly and if you can't keep up with me I'm going to talk you out of the pot."


Some guys I think would say '2-pair' on a board of A3322 even when not holding an ace in hopes that the other guy will fold in a likely split-pot.


But as for saying the 'aces-up' thing....I also think some players say it just because they think it sounds cool.
They're wrong of course..but since when did that stop anybody?
