Default Re: Who\'s the next Detroit/Michigan coach to get fired?

[ QUOTE ]
If I had to choose one, John L is outta there. Previous coaches have had similar "success" and have given the boot.

Previous coaches at MSU? Who? Perles retired after like 20 years as HC. Then Saban took over for a few years, and left for LSU after his best season. Bobby Williams was let go after a couple seasons because he not only didn't produce, but he didn't have any discipline in his players.

Smith was 5-6 this year and 5-6 last year, missing a bowl berth two consecutive years. In 2003 he went 8-5, but 5 of his first 6 games were at home. They went 5-1 during that stretch, with that one loss coming at home to LA TECH.

The managed to squeak out a couple road wins against Minnesota and Illinois, and the finale at home against Penn State. But they lost at home to UM, on the road to OSU and UW, and in their bowl game to Nebraska.

The only moderately impressive win of the season was winning on the road against Notre Dame, but they didn't end up having much of a season anyway.

Smith's job is not in jeopardy as long as he doesn't embarrass the University the way Williams did. He will always get an A for effort from Ron Mason (the AD at MSU).
