Tip $1 every other pot. What's the problem?

that's what he did.

Your friend is lame.

well, he is Jewish.

Did he explain that to the dealer?

i don't think so. maybe my buddy is cheap in this regard, but IMO the dealer was infinitely worse than my friend was in this instance. I tip a buck when I play 30/60. am i supposed to tip 1/8th of a bet, like $1 is in a 4/8 game?

When I was at theMirage, playing 3/6, the daytime players ALWAYS tipped $0.50. I did the same. At CP, the standard tip is a buck at every game, unless the pot is large ($2), the player is drunk ($0-5) or the player is an off-duty dealer ($2-3).
I recognize the dealer who did this by his description. He is a surly fellow, and slthough a very technically competent dealer, he makes the game less enjoyable. Like being a waiter, helping the customer have a pleasant experience is part of the job. Next time he deals, I think I'll toss him an orange after every pot.
