Default Re: chip race

That's not why it's called a race. It is somewhat of a competition in terms of getting chips.

Let's say that the tournament has moved beyond $25 chips. The blinds will be in $100 denominations and there are no more $25 antes. For example, 500/1000 blinds with 100 antes.

Everybody gets 1 $100 chips (the next largest denomination) for every 4 $25 chips in their stack. They keep, for the time being, any remaining $25 chips. So if somebody has 7 $25 chips they get 1 $100 chip and keep the remaining 3. If somebody has 3 $25 chips they keep all of them.

Now the race begins, the dealer shuffles and everybody who has $25 chips gets one card per chip. So if somebody has 3 chips, they get 3 cards. 0 chips, 0 cards. The dealer takes all of the $25 chips and figures out how many $100 chips they can be turned into, rounding up. So if between all the players there are 15 $25 chips, that's $375, the dealer will convert those into 4 $100 chips.

The final step is that the dealer will give out the chips to the players with the highest card (A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] is tops) until all of the chips have been distributed. Nobody can get more than 1 chip. So if I'm lucky and get 3 Aces, I get 1 chip. If somebody else has an Ace, they would get a chip. Otherwise see who has a King and so on until all 4 chips have been distributed.
