no you should have not bet on the end. you will get clobbered more often than not. you only beat a bluff so why bet. no one with a calling hand on the end that check raised you will not beat your garbage hand.
he played fairly well by trying to take it away from you. probably most times you should let him. your hand was garbage or did i say that. dont go getting broke with these kind of hands in pots that you shouldnt have been in the first place.
you want to keep it as small as possible once you made the mistake of playing after that flop.
