EDITED to say, also focus on table selection! Find tables with a lot of loose players. At these tables blind stealing defense is lowered in importance as those situations don't come up as much (you should be stealing/defending when appropriate, but it won't be as big of a leak.)

What's the best method for selecting good tables at 1/2? I never really bother to spend a lot of time on this but I see it listed as something that's very important over and over.

I don't spend a ton of time either, but I leave a table quickly if it doesn't look good. If I play on party I play 4 tables, and have 6 more open, my PT/PokerAce will be observing the hands on the other tables so I can put my name on waitlists for juicy looking tables as backups
