I'd say that if Bush only manages to avoid creating new long term entitlements, makes spending growth cuts, and enacts further tax reduction and reform, then Bush will have done enough to cement his place as the top conservative President of the modern movement.

Conservatives aren't going to get a perfect President. Especially when having to compromise with 500+ porkers on Capitol Hill, something has to give. Bush chooses to give in on spending, relying on *opposition* cries about the deficit to be the break on spending. These four years of Bush haven't been a bad example of starving the beast I think.

So as long as the temporary tax cuts are made permanent, and some more tax reform comes in, we should be set.

Conservatives who hate Bush should also hate Reagan by the way, so if you like the latter but not the former, re-evaluate your position on spending and deficits.
