Default Re: Getting my newbie brother a poker book-- which one?

I thought the "Winning Low-Limit Hold'em" by Lee Jones was a great book for beginners. I have loaned it to several new players and they all seemed to enjoy it. That assumes, of course, that he is willing to start with the limit game.

My personal opinion is that it is easier to learn by playing limit (getting familiar with pot odds, etc.). Lee Jones' book is very specific about how to play hands and is a great starting book that will allow him to jump in to an average low-limit game and come out ahead quickly. It is weak on theory and emphasizes a style that isn't as profitable over the long run, but I think it is perfect for a starter.
