The Sumerians had an obsession with the number six. They kept all their records and calenders in multiples of six and they are why we have a 24 hr day. The semetic peoples (Akkadians) of Akkad first fully intergrated into Sumerian culture after Sargon of Agade led the Akkadian army to victory over the Sumer-states. The unification involved the Akkadians largely aboning their culture and adopting the norms of Sumerian society. The semetic people in Sumerian lands were later the authors of the old testement. Lots of Sumerian culture is evident in the old testament and, as another example, many speculate the story of noah is a revision of the Sumerian story of the great flood.
