People who try to buy in short after getting tapped are usually not playing well. I want their action. Also, if you tell them they have to come up with 2k, they may leave and not come back. But if you allow them the short buyin, they may lose it and then go get more money to lose. Malmuth actually mentions this in one of his poker essays books...sometimes you don't want to enforce short buy-in restrictions if it makes it more likely someone will go off for all their money.

This is a minor issue to me b/c people at Borg generally always come up with lots of hundred dollar bills. I just think the regulars who wanted these buyin rules are not really thinking it through.
