Default Re: Two hands for check-up

[ QUOTE ]
Hand 1 I just bet and bet and bet and if he is passive with ATo/A9 or something well that's life. It's a situation where he's going to pay off with a lot much more often than he will have a better hand or checkraise the turn with air and I want to discourage loose flop peeling.

Hand 2 you sound unsure of your read so I just bend over and assume the calling position.

Dave, when you're on you're on. This is a perfect post.

I think the statement about discouraging loose flop peeling is paramount. The idea has been coined as, I read somewhere, "implied threat" (as opposed to implied odds). It means your flop bet implies future turn and river bets, telling the opponent it will be expensive to showdown his hand. If you start to withdraw your implied threats by checking turns and rivers, you will get peeled a lot and not know what it means.

It's one of the best reasons for value betting in position.
