The ace of clubs raises the flop a lot, so even though he'd probably pay off with that I don't think he has it very often. You get value from 2x, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99. If it's someone who you think will draw to a bunch of different clubs and bluff them, checking is better. With just his stats I would bet.
