if he goes to NYU, he has access to all the equipment he needs - I know,I also went to NYU Film School.
2 grand is plenty to make a student film. If he needs, he's either drastically under-budgeted and should re-think his project on the budget he CAN afford, or he's an idiot who will never get out of film school sucessfully.
Either way, giving him more money only exacerbates the problem.
