Default Angel Oak trip report

I have been living in Charleston, SC for a few months now, and finally got around to checking out a tree that is known as the Angel Oak. It is only a few miles from my house, and I have been told that it is the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi (not sure of the validity of this claim). It is estimated to be 1400 years old, and shades 17,000 square feet. It is only 65 ft tall, but the thing is quite a wonder to behold.

These are not my photos, just something I found on the net.

This experience has piqued my curiosity in ancient trees. What's the name of those 3,000 year old trees in Cali? If you have seen them in person, please describe your experience.
