I would raise the flop, but I agree it's not incredibly different from the SSHE example you mention. Three important differences though are:

1. The pot is smaller here.
2. There are less gutshots available.
3. There is one fewer opponent.

All of these points make hand protection less important.

However, I really don't think waiting for the turn would be terrible. If we raise the flop, gutshots will be getting 19.5:2 or 9.75:1 (not sure where rake comes in). So as long as the villains can expect to make up 2-3 SB (villains are calling two so implied odds must be doubled, also giving a gutshot full four outs is probably wrong since they will occasionally be outdrawn) on the turn and river, they would still be calling correctly. However, if we wait until the turn, they will no longer be getting correct odds.
