I don't know why the a room safe wouldn't be good, but I prefer to have my money on me - I know where that is at all times and short of getting mugged, it's not going to dissapear without my knowledge.
I think a lot of poeple that carry around a lot of cash use money belts or other "hidden" means of carrying their money.
There's likely to ba an ATM reasonably handy - why not just get cash as you need it if you're worried about your BR?
